Metrics help teams notice change. They do not always tell a complete story about what caused it.

01

Define the measure

Agree on what the metric includes, how it is collected, and which period it covers. A shifting definition makes comparisons unreliable.

02

Check the context

Look at traffic mix, seasonality, pricing, product changes, and tracking changes before attributing a result to one action.

03

Choose the next question

Use the result to form a narrower hypothesis. Decide what evidence would support or challenge it, then make the next change deliberately.

The takeaway

The useful loop is change, measure, learn, and repeat—with room to question the explanation.
